Being Adult Allies to a Courageous Generation

There have been many important articles written about how COVID-19 is affecting the mental health of our youth. Statistical data reports, youth-led articles, parent editorials and social media that has been sharing the youth story with the world since March 2020.

What we can’t lose sight of, is how we as adult ally’s, can actively hold space and come alongside youth in support. Allies, who are ready to partner with youth in this difficult time.

CBYF is Engaging Northern Youth

We work on a project called Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF), based out of Whitehorse, Yukon. The project is going into its second year. Our Partnership Table decided to include youth differently by hiring six youth as CBYF Interns. As interns, we work with our project manager to complete research and tasks within the project. CBYF hired us in November, and since then, we have concluded a weekend of training, contributed to partnership meetings on a bi-weekly basis and have completed a research project.

Announcing the 2020/21 CBYF Community Innovation Fund Recipients

Tamarack Institute is proud to announce the recipients of our 2020-21 Communities Building Youth Futures Community Innovation Fund. Tamarack and Government of Canada’s Learning Branch through the Goal Getters program, have implemented Communities Building Youth Futures to develop system-wide solutions for youth as they build and act upon plans for their future. The Community Innovation Fund is an opportunity for member communities to experiment and develop new models and local efforts, that are not covered by other grants or funding streams, which support youth in the community.

A Youth Perspective: By Youth, For Youth

When I was invited to co-host a workshop called A Professional’s Guide to Working with Young People in Citizen Space in December, I felt very nervous. I do not have much experience with any kind of business meeting, and I was afraid I would slip up. When the call began, everything changed. It felt less like a meeting or workshop and more like a classroom. This was an environment I was already comfortable in, so I felt a lot more relaxed. I realized that everyone was not expecting me to have professional experience and knowing that allowed me to feel more comfortable. There were many lovely people in the workshop that built off the knowledge I shared, and I felt like I had a real role.
