"Recovery UBI" a Basic Income Proposal to Spur Economic Recovery

UBI Works, an organization representing over 40,000 basic income advocates, has launched their proposal for a national basic income, Recovery UBI. Their plan bridges the gap between current pandemic supports and an eventual long-term basic income that would address the inadequacies in Canada’s current social safety net. It would provide all Canadian adults (no matter their income or existing supports) with $500/month and further establish a guaranteed minimum income to address the persistent poverty currently trapping so many Canadians.

Collective Impact work sets the stage for Saskatoon’s Inter-Agency Response

Saskatoon's Inter-Agency Response was created out of recognizing the unique challenges the pandemic would bring to agencies supporting vulnerable people. Born out of initial discussions through the Safe Community Action Alliance, it emerged into a comprehensive operation with over 65 organizations.

14 BC Members Receive Provincial Funding for Poverty Reduction

The Government of British Columbia has announced $5M in funding through the Poverty Reduction Planning and Action Program that will empower 54 local governments to create on-the-ground solutions to ending poverty. The program supports the rollout of TogetherBC, the province's first poverty reduction strategy, and marks the first time that local governments have received provincial funding to develop and implement local poverty reduction plans.

In a webinar with Philip DeVol, whose books include Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’ by World and co-authoring Bridges out of Poverty – he described the theory and principles behind Bridges and how the Getting Ahead model takes these ideas further.

The Bridges work can be progressed to a community engagement process that is about enabling communities to lead and shape their own future stories. For those familiar and already involved in this popular work in the community, it was an opportunity to reflect on the process and relevance in the current climate.
