Jessica Lazare
I am an onkwehonwe (original people/Indigenous) woman from the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) territory of Kahnawà:ke. I am a mother of two boys, and I am currently enrolled at Concordia University. My interests are public policy & First Peoples studies, as well as painting. I advocate for collective approaches in community work, and platforms for youth.
Je suis une femme onkwehonwe (peuple originel/autochtone) vivant sur le territoire Kanien’kehá:ka (mohawk) de Kahnawà:ke. Je suis mère de deux garçons, et suis actuellement inscrite à l’Université Concordia. Je m’intéresse aux politiques publiques et aux études des peuples autochtones, de même qu’à la peinture. Je plaide pour l’utilisation d’approches collectives dans le cadre du travail communautaire, de même que pour la mise en place de plateformes pour la jeunesse.

Youth engagement is a challenge for many communities across Canada, and it is a key determinant in the success or failure of any youth program. In my home community, the situation is no different. The Kahnawake Collective Impact (KCI) began its journey within the small Mohawk community a little over 5 years ago, along with the help of the Tamarack Institute. In that time, we have developed an autonomous ‘organization’ with multiple working groups and a steering committee at its core.
