I am a 55 year-old local community organizer who is disabled and poor and lives in Newton, a poor and challenged neighbourhood in Surrey B.C. I get things done though!! I have been volunteering my time hard core for last few years. Each year for the past several years I have held a 60-day vigil where I sit for two hours a day and just listen to residents. I hear so much loneliness and despair in my neighborhood. From my own life experiences, I can offer my neighbours the knowledge and compassion that many have never seen/felt before. I Friends of the Grove (a vibrant community collective that uses music, art and playfulness to bring peace and harmony to Newton), Cedar Bark Poets (a monthly anthology of poems by local residents), a Free Food Garden and stewarded the Newton Anthology. This year my dream is to host a ‘Fambul Toks’ peace and reconciliation process for the residents of Newton on August 20th, 2017.
