The Canadian Council on Social Determinants of Health (CCSDH) has recently released a new paper, A Review of Frameworks on the Determinants of Health that reviews 36 frameworks from a variety of sectors on the determinants of health, from Canada and abroad, and provides an indepth assessment of seven frameworks that are particularly relevant to the Canadian context.
The Review is the work of the CCSDH's Determinants of Health Frameworks Task Group, a diverse volunteer panel, who recognized the usefulness of frameworks in improving "understanding of complex issues like the determinants of health on the well-being of individuals, communities and populations".
The Review is intended for policymakers, researchers and practitioners, to advance action on the determinants of health. The information and synthesis curated in the Review is hoped to serve as a catalyst for "innovative and intersectoral responses" by: identifying opportunities for collaboration; highlighting priority areas for action; exploring conditions for success; and ultimately, "identifying opportunities to bridge sectors for improved impact."
A Review of Frameworks on the Determinants of Health is available in both French and English and makes a valuable contribution in understanding, measuring and monitoring and taking collective action on a range of complex community issues by viewing them through the lens of the social determinants of health.
