Seeking contributions for a publication on the connections between climate and the Sustainable Development Goals

June 7 update: While we are interested in the connections between climate action and any of the other SDGs, we are currently missing ones that explore these specific goals: Goal 5 Gender Equality; Goal 6 Clean Water and Sanitation; Goal 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities; Goal 14 Life Below Water; Goal 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and Goal 17 Partnerships. 

We are curating a series of short pieces from community changemakers across the country on the intersections between climate action and other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). If you are interested in submitting a 350- to 500-word piece articulating the interconnections between climate change/action and other pressing challenges of our time, we would love to hear from you.  

Deadline

We are accepting submissions until June 20, 2022. Please email them to laura@tamarackcommunity.ca. We will be selecting the top submissions for inclusion in a publication that showcases diverse perspectives on how climate is inextricably linked to other wicked societal problems.  

Compensation

If your blog post is selected to be among those published in the series, you will receive $150 as compensation. The piece would then be published in both French and English by Tamarack Institute for Community Engagement. We will seek guidance from all authors on how to amplify their voices on social media and via Tamarack’s other communication channels.

Below is some additional information on the framing of this publication. 

Tentative title/subtitle of the publication: 

Title: Climate And ...
Subtitle: Diverse voices across Canada explore the intersections between climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals at the community level 

Examples of potential topics: 

• How communities can promote food security while working towards net zero (Goal 2) 
• The connections between climate and gender equality (Goal 5) 
• The role of innovation and/or industry in ushering in a just transition (Goal 9) 
• The importance of reconciliation in climate action (not a specific SDG and largely excluded from the framework, but critical to
• Canada’s efforts to advance the Goals) 

Audience

Note that the audience for these pieces is community changemakers from across sectors (local governments, community organizations, engaged citizens, businesses), mostly based in Canada. A strong blog post will weave in examples and resources, ideally at the community level, where readers can deepen their learning and draw inspiration. We are also keen on pieces that are solutions-oriented and offer potential pathways forward.
