About Maureen

Maureen brings many years of experience working with social determinants of health in Health Promotion with the Province of Manitoba. Maureen believes in using an equity approach across all of her work. She ensures that the needs of vulnerable individuals, neighbourhoods and communities are being considered when planning a program, service, initiative or policy.

Maureen's involvement with Tamarack began in 2020 as a member of the leadership table with Tamarack's Communities Building Youth Futures in Portage la Prairie. She also founded and chaired the Community Food Matters Committee in Portage la Prairie, where poverty reduction was the focus. Maureen has worked with many community agencies, municipal and provincial governments, and Indigenous partners throughout her career in public health. She brings knowledge of collective impact and experience involving people with lived and living experience in poverty reduction.

Maureen completed two Honours Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Manitoba: one in Physical Education and one in Education. She is a lifelong learner seeking opportunities to advance knowledge in Harm Reduction, Indigenous Cultural Safety and creative writing. Maureen is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys every season in Manitoba. She is an avid skier and hiker, and balances her time between work, family and getting outside.
