Twenty years is a significant timespan in the life of an organization. Over the years, communities across Canada, the US and globally have been on the forefront of transformational change. These communities and changemakers are acting in bold and innovative ways. They hope to end poverty in Canada, address the impacts of social isolation and loneliness, build better futures for youth, and collectively navigate climate transitions. Tamarack journeyed alongside communities documenting their work, lifting up and calling out the need for changes in systems.
The 2021 Annual Report is an opportunity to both look back but also to lead forward. In 2020, the Board of Directors launched the Tamarack 2030 plan which sets a bold strategy for the future of Tamarack. During the first year, much has been accomplished. The Annual Report documents this progress by both looking back and leading forward.
With this Annual Report, Tamarack also welcomes four new members of the Board of Directors. We are excited to welcome Dian Al-khooly, Natasha Beedie, Jiwei Li and William Harper to the Board of Directors Team. You can view all board member profiles here.
2021 was a time of transition for Tamarack. Paul Born has moved from Co-CEO to a new role in the organization as Co-Founder and Director. Paul is currently on a six-month sabbatical to write a new book about whole community change. He will return in October eager to share his wisdom with our partners.
We also welcomed Danya Pastuszek, Co-CEO and Director, Vibrant Communities to the Tamarack team. Danya’s passion for community change is evident through her years of experience and leadership with a variety of organizations across the US including the United Way of Salt Lake.
Navigating through the pandemic has been challenging for communities and for our partners. There is a fatigue that sets in when the future is unclear. Equally, the pandemic has revealed deep schisms and inequities in our communities. As we collectively lead forward, Tamarack will work toward an anti-racist approach in our work, embedding with it in restorative practice.
We have traveled together these past 20 years and look forward to a collective journey leading forward.
