Born and raised in Treaty 1 territory, Angelina Pelletier is a passionate advocate for healthy communities, and has a wealth of experience on the community level in engaging with Indigenous and newcomer youth with a focus on breaking down barriers to effect systems change. Her traditional spirit name is is Nii Gaani Michif Ikwe, which translates to Leading Michif Woman.
Angelina's education is rooted in legal administration, human rights and community economic development and she is a trained facilitator in Intergroup Dialogue through the department of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. Angelina has volunteered her time as a note-taker for students with disabilities at the University of Winnipeg and as a youth mentor for newcomer and refugee children at N.E.E.D.S. Centre. Angelina has also sat as Treasurer for the Indigenous Student Council at Red River College Polytech.
In recent years, she sat as one of two Indigenous representatives as Director and Secretary of the Board at Main Street Project Health Centre. She currently sits on the Board of Directors at Inspired By Wonder Childcare Centre.
As a daughter, sister, auntie and mother, family is what grounds Angelina both in her work and identity and is her biggest motivator in building equitable communities. She is the proud mother of two beautiful children, Tayshaun and Aminata, and is a life partner to Abdou.
