Donate to the Community Change Movement

Invest in Collaboration. In Community. In Real Impact.

People engage with the Tamarack Institute to make true, powerful change in their communities.

Some come to learn, others come to gather and to collaborate. All come for the strength and the wisdom needed to make a real difference.

The Community Change Movement uplifts the unique gifts and perspectives held by people like you. With your generous donation to Tamarack, you champion community leadership and engagement as meaningful and urgent avenues to address the interconnected challenges around us.

Your kindness and generosity will contribute to:

  • ending poverty;
  • uplifting youth and their futures;
  • just climate transitions;
  • building belonging;

.... and so much more. Together, we will show that the successes of our collective movement rest on supporting one another.

“We have been able to create incredible initiatives and resources for our region that are integrated across sectors and agencies that benefit all. Our community is served better, and we have been able to bring in millions of dollars where we were not able to do so when not working in alignment” – Tamarack Learner
“The [Climate Transitions] Cohort has provided a profoundly useful array of resources and splendid coaching sessions to further our work in stimulating collaborative strategies to address, climate, ecological, and social justice crises.” – Community Climate Transitions Member
“I just want to say that you and the other [Reconnect! Making Communities Essential] conference organizers are so awesome...I love, love, love, that you give me the opportunity to bring others with me as part of my CDC membership. Immediately after the conference closed, I got messages from two of our Neighbourhood Connectors. They have been totally inspired!” – Communities Building Belonging Member
“[Membership] has been life changing. There are no other resources around community development/engagement/change. I would not be doing this work! I would get a normal job.” – Tamarack Member

Why us? Why now?

A donation to Tamarack means a donation impacting and uplifting those with lived experience.

The key to our sustainability is our people and their impact. At Tamarack we are committed to supporting our diverse community of members and partners, to making their work easier, and, above all, more effective.

Our network of incredible and passionate changemakers has grown by more than 50% in the last five years.

The progress of our shared movement would not have been possible without changemakers like you, and its future rests on our commitment to continue building and learning together.

That’s why we have decided to embrace fundraising as a movement building tool. Together, we can strengthen our shared commitments to our communities and movements, policy and systems change, and large-scale impact.

Stories from the Movement

For over two decades, Saint John, New Brunswick, worked to successfully break the cycle of poverty by engaging the whole community to drive change. Explore how this approach achieved a more than 14% reduction in poverty from 2001 to 2021 by addressing root causes in education, employment, health, and neighbourhood well-being.
Walking alongside First Nations communities is a process that requires us to question and reimagine our approaches and perspectives. Read how we put our learning into action with Chippewas of the Thames First Nation to support them in guiding a participatory evaluation process for Nii Kiniganaa, a legislative committee of 23 Matriarchs.

Alberta’s Bow Valley is both uniquely impacted by climate change and uniquely poised to advance climate action. Read how the Town of Canmore and Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley leveraged learnings from the inaugural climate transitions cohort to mobilize over 80 changemakers to kick-start collective action on climate in the region.

For more than a decade, St. Albert, Alberta, has been investing in its social fabric and infrastructure through a neighborhood connection program that has earned its reputation as the Block Party capital of Canada. Watch how these activities, guided by a Social Masterplan, continue to yield dividends for residents who feel safer and more connected and capable in their neighbourhoods as a result.

Successes from the Movement

  • Achieving population-level outcomes at scale. Communities Ending Poverty members continue to be actively engaged in the development and implementation of local, provincial, and national poverty reduction strategies leading to significant reductions – specifically, over 2 million Canadians exited poverty from 2015-2020.
  • Demonstrating deep engagement of community members in decisions that impact them. Over 25,900 youth have been engaged in improving local education outcomes through Communities Building Youth Futures’ 19 local leadership tables, 40 innovation projects, and as backbone project staff since 2019.
  • Building extraordinary involvement in the movement for community change. Accomplishing exponential growth of our learning community and four outcome-focused networks from 23,000 learners in 2018 to 50,000 in 2023 as changemakers identify Tamarack as their go-to resource for community change.
  • Co-creating bilingual field building resources that redefine what’s possible in communities. Our Learning Centre and communities continue to co-develop widely accessed learning tools, including a 10 Guide about engaging people with lived and living experience that has been downloaded over 12,000 times.
  • Accelerating the scale of the movement through cross-sectoral investment. Bringing together governments, philanthropic organizations, businesses, and key strategic and global partners to mobilize capital for long-term commitments to climate justice, youth futures, community belonging, and eradicating poverty.

Funders of the Movement

We want to give special thanks to the funding partners and contributors who breathe significant momentum into the movement and our collective work. Our growing learning community and organizational funding partners are catalytic supporters of the movement.

As a registered charity, all funds generated through paid learning engagements from our members and learners are reinvested back into our work to strengthen Tamarack’s publicly available supports and resources. In 2022, contributions from our learning community totaled nearly $1.8M to the community change movement.

We are also deeply thankful for the organizational funding partners who have journeyed with us from the beginning and those who have joined the movement more recently.
