About Angelina

Born in the small community of Swan Lake, Manitoba and later relocating to the city of Winnipeg at the age of 11 years old, Angelina Pelletier holds great pride in her familial connections across Treaty 1 territory. She is a Red River Métis descendant and is a proud Michif & Indigenous Fijian woman. Her traditional spirit name, Nîkânîw Michif Iskwe (Leading Michif Woman) has helped to guide her on her journey as a community advocate and an emerging leader. Angelina is passionate about building healthy communities and has experience at the community level in engaging with Indigenous and newcomer youth with a focus on shifting policy to effect systems change.

Angelina's education is rooted in legal administration, human rights and community economic development and she is a trained facilitator in Intergroup Dialogue through the department of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. She is a volunteer facilitator with Circles for Reconciliation, and has led sharing circles in the community with a focus on building understanding of Indigenous experiences and history. Angelina has volunteered her time as a note-taker for students with disabilities at the University of Winnipeg and as a youth mentor for newcomer and refugee children at N.E.E.D.S. Centre.

Presently, Angelina is a member of the Police Accountability Coalition (PAC) and acts as a representative in the Training Curriculum Working Group with the Province of Manitoba’s Public Safety Training Strategy. As well, she is an appointed member of the Welcoming Winnipeg: Committee of Community Members, with the City of Winnipeg – Indigenous Relations Division. The Welcoming Winnipeg initiative is one aspect of the reconciliation process the City of Winnipeg is committed to, and will help ensure that the contributions, experiences, and perspectives of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit are reflected truthfully in the stories, historical markers, and place names of the community.

At Tamarack, Angelina works as a Manager of Communities, Indigenous with Communities Building Youth Futures. In this role Angelina applies collective impact theories into improving outcomes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth who face systemic barriers as they pursue their secondary education and transition to adulthood. This role has expanded with Angelina also providing organizational support around Indigenous reconciliation and community engagement in First Nation and northern communities. She works directly with communities across the country on their pursuit of healthy and equitable spaces for youth, while also supporting them in identifying capacity and relationship building opportunities.

As a daughter, sister, auntie and mother, family is what grounds Angelina both in her work and identity and is her biggest motivator in building equitable communities. She is the proud mother of two beautiful children, Tayshaun and Aminata, and life partner to Abdou.
