In the vast and culturally rich landscape of Canada, there lie two hidden gems in our fight against poverty: the power of community and our sense of belonging. Poverty is deeply intertwined within our social fabric, leading people coping with poverty to experience higher levels of loneliness and social isolation. By understanding the social aspects of poverty and the transformative impact of feeling a sense of belonging, we can pave the way towards a better future for all people in our communities.
This is part 2 of the webinar series on Poverty and Belonging. This webinar highlights how to recognize and map community strengths to support those who need it most. A strong sense of belonging and social cohesion may translate to a higher likelihood of people engaging in participatory processes to solve their problems, and we all have a role to play to build inclusion and care into our neighbourhoods.
