CASE STUDY | Transforming Systems Through Lived Experience

CASE STUDY | Transforming Systems Through Lived Experience

This case study explores the development and impact of a pilot project that targeted skill building in anti-poverty advocacy, planning, and policy development at both provincial and civic levels. Titled the Community Action Network Leadership Training initiative, the project launched in New Westminster, BC, in 2017.

The initiative represents a partnership between three organizations: the City of New Westminster, BC Poverty Reduction Coalition, and the Community Action Network in BC. The study outlines the distinct but connected roles that each organization played in the pilot project, as well as their goals for the project’s outcomes.

For example, the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition sought to ensure the program followed a low-barrier, participatory, people-centered, experience-led approach.

The publication also includes a testimonial from Lorna Howat, an anti-poverty advocate with lived/living experience of homelessness.
