The Energy We Emanate and Absorb

Systems change relies on so many things. One of them is the energy we emanate and absorb.

I had a few hours of community yesterday morning with 282 other marathoners. It felt different from other races I’ve run.

Windy. Gray. Chilly. Not many spectators.

Most of us had our heads down, shielding our eyes from the rain. The shared space radiated quiet, focus, and persistence.

But while energy was pointed inward, when runners passed one another (or bunched together and pulled apart), energies fused.

There was connection and mutual support even in the quiet.

I see most daily experiences through the lens of building the community necessary to change any system.

So the race was a reminder that systems change relies on the energy we offer and absorb. And that energy creates breadths and depths of impact that we’ll never fully know.

Next up in learning about the power of energy - Run Ottawa! Hope to see some of you there.
