What Lights Us Up

What Lights Us Up

Earlier this week, I was with some local leaders - a principal and an assistant principal in a large elementary school. We were exchanging ideas on structural supports for students, in inevitable moments of boredom or frustration.

The assistant principal shared that she often asks young people three questions: “What parts of your routine are not your favourites? What might help you prepare for and work through them? (And what's lighting you up right now?)”

Her questions will stay with me. They feel relevant to the work that people of all ages do, as they work to see, diagnose and change systems.

It’s fascinating how conversations that we think will be about “one thing” can spark so many other things. And gratitude to the observant, generous local leaders in each of our communities.
