Community Climate Transitions December 2023 Newsletter

Dear there,

With another year coming to an end, we have been reflecting on the achievements — both big and small — of our 40+ member communities along with their lessons learned and looking ahead to 2024.

One theme that has emerged in many communities has been the need for a stronger sense of belonging and inclusion across our perceived differences. This is especially pressing in these times of increased turmoil and polarization. Our latest publication, Belonging, Community and Climate Action, explores how belonging can accelerate local climate action, and vice versa, through the lens of four changemakers from across Turtle Island.

Our recent national gathering Communities Taking Climate Action brought together 220+ participants over two days both virtually and in-person at eight local watch parties and meetups. It was rich in inspiration, connection, and learnings. Check out some of the highlights and takeaways.

If you are looking to accelerate your local climate action through a collaborative approach that engages major local institutions alongside residents, leveraging everyone’s unique gifts and assets, you are invited to join the Community Climate Transitions (CCT) network. We are currently welcoming a new intake of members via the 2024 Climate Transition Cohort – apply by December 15.

We look forward to continuing to learn alongside you in the new year. In the meantime, wishing you much joy for the holiday season!

North America's Turtle Island has been home to Indigenous peoples descended from First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples since time immemorial.

At the Tamarack Institute, we recognize the contributions and historical significance of indigenous peoples, and affirm our collective commitment to fulfilling the promise and challenge of truth and reconciliation in our communities.
