Hi there,
On October 12th's Mid-Ontario Rural Convenor Call, Dominica McPherson, Coordinator of the Guelph & Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination, helped add to our discussion about moving from housing mitigation to reduction efforts and presented their Yes! In My Backyard campaign.
You can now access the meeting recording (passcode Ex3*?dpl).
Key Highlights:
- Built for Zero's Coordinated Entry approach is helpful in moving from a housing system characterized by randomness and inefficiency to one that is coordinated, prioritizes individuals based on need, and provides unique supports to individuals.
- Diversion Workers are an asset to prevent homelessness.
- Positive messaging and the rights-based approach are two key characteristics of Guelph-Wellington's YIMBY Campaign.
- Calls to Action and ready-to-go materials for the public and politicians are essential for getting everyone on the same page with messaging, and able to deliver different arguments/information to each sector.
- Staff time is the primary cost for the YIMBY campaign. It can be done by the backbone or by others.
