The Deepening Community team has had a busy spring preparing for our upcoming learning events this year.
We are proud to say we have opportunities for everyone, and we are also particularly excited to finally be able to connect with our members and learners in person after more than two years of virtual gatherings.
I hope we have the chance to cross paths at one of the fantastic opportunities below.
Sincerely,
Heather and the Deepening Communities Team

Celebrating Neighbours: Measuring the Impact of ABCD
June 7–9, 2022 | London, Ontario
We are thrilled to be collaborating with Fanshawe College on an in-person event built around learning and deep reflection. The past two years have not been easy on anyone, but there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel – and that is a cause for celebration.
We are truly proud of this curriculum, which includes a fantastic lineup of keynote speakers who bring fresh and timely perspectives to the Deepening Community network.
Between the speaker roster and our desire to connect in person, we truly believe that this will be a unique experience that is not to be missed. Act soon – seats are filling.
This training session is designed to bring together the ABCD Institute’s 30 years of community development research in the United States and Nurture Development’s 20 years of international research and practical experience in community development.
We are excited to host our dear friend and colleague Cormac Russell for a full-day workshop on everything Asset-Based Community Development.
Have you been tasked with developing activities that will deepen a sense of community in your neighbourhood, town or city? Are you trying to build the case to decision-makers that this is a good idea? We have you covered.
This foundational course will walk you through six modules that will help you to define your reason, build the case for a plan and think about the development of the strategy. The course brings Collective Impact and Asset-Based Community Development together to focus on building a plan that puts residents at the centre.
Asset-Based Community Development 101 – Building Your Community Table
November 1, 2022 | Virtual Workshop
As we plan for the year ahead, we want to ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, can attend our ABCD learning opportunities.
In this one-day virtual workshop, learners will develop a foundational understanding of ABCD, including its foundations, principles and practices. Learners will also be guided through practical tools designed to help build their community table.
This workshop will be offered in English and French (details to come). Fill out the form linked below to be the first to know when registration opens.
Acknowledging the traditional role that police have played in relation to formally enforcing safety measures, we will be speaking to retired police chief Mike Butler about his process for reforming his force’s role in his community in Longmont, Colorado.
This conversation will discuss policing as one component of an asset-based approach, as well as the process for building trust with residents to promote safety and well-being.
Members deepen their collective understanding of the power and possibility of the community by developing strategies at the neighbourhood, town or city level. They also connect with peers, showcase their work nationally and get individualized coaching and mentorship.
