However, there are signs that the tides are turning, and this presents a critical moment. How might we re-envision youth engagement as an opportunity to work alongside youth to create a hopeful, post-pandemic future?  [Read More](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/why-youth-why-now?hsLang=en-us) [![](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/hubfs/Photos/Image%20Library/youth%20engagement.jpeg) ](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/designing-a-commitment-to-youth-engagement?hsLang=en-us) ### [Designing a Commitment to Youth Engagement](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/designing-a-commitment-to-youth-engagement?hsLang=en-us) Posted by [Kimber Kunimoto](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/author/kimber-kunimoto) on August 7, 2020 I came to community change work as a young person with lived experience. I wanted to find community where my peers and other young people felt empowered and heard. I wanted to see youth as leaders and young people given the space to create and innovate. I came to community change work to ignite a shift in how lived experienced is viewed, from less than, to being valuable expertise. If you are not me, how can you know what I want or need? I have found the meaningfulness of being asked the simple question of trying to know what I want or what I need to be diluted as the target audience shifts from me to we. Too often have I felt my own voice get watered down amongst the masses. Sometimes to the point where I am no longer motivated in participating in such efforts to include my two cents in a census. In my home community, the situation is no different. The Kahnawake Collective Impact (KCI) began its journey within the small Mohawk community a little over 5 years ago, along with the help of the Tamarack Institute. In that time, we have developed an autonomous ‘organization’ with multiple working groups and a steering committee at its core.   [Read More](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/with-not-for?hsLang=en-us) [Previous](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/topic/cbyf-blog/page/5) [Next](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest/topic/cbyf-blog/page/7) [![20yrLogo-2_WhiteOrange](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/hs-fs/hubfs/Administration/Tamarack%20Logos/20yrLogo-2_WhiteOrange.png?width=3401&name=20yrLogo-2_WhiteOrange.png "20yrLogo-2_WhiteOrange")](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/?hsLang=en-us) ### Tamarack [Home](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/?hsLang=en-us) [Latest](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/latest) [Events](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/eventlisting?hsLang=en-us) [Donate](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/donate?hsLang=en-us) [About](https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/whoweare?hsLang=en-us) ### Follow Us [** ** ](https://www.facebook.com/TamarackInstitute) [** ** ](https://twitter.com/Tamarack_Inst) [** ** ](https://www.linkedin.com/company/tamarack-institute-for-community-engagement)   In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth we honour and acknowledge that our work occurs across Turtle Island (North America), which has been home since time immemorial to the ancestors of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. ### Subscribe Be in the know.
