Cities Reducing Poverty collaboratives have worked for years to build local relationships that  support residents and neighbourhoods to thrive. These efforts have strengthened the social infrastructure communities need to be resilient and quickly organize in an emergency situation, such as COVID-19.

While the specific response varies greatly across communities in Canada, many of our members have found their roles shifting from helping residents thrive to helping them survive. As such, the primary focus has been on: food security, safe shelter that allows for social distancing, health information, mental health support, income security, and transportation. Here are some of the primary ways in which they are responding:

1. **Coordinating and information-sharing** – Organizing and/or informing the response of the non-profit sector, to ensure clients continue accessing services as best as possible, as well as adapting and enhancing services to accommodate newly vulnerable residents in the community. Examples include:
     - Supporting food banks, shelters and other food programs by brokering relationships to [accept rescued and/or donated food](https://www.sootoday.com/coronavirus-covid-19-sault-ste-marie-news/travis-mclean-drives-all-night-to-bring-food-for-the-saults-most-vulnerable-2205288); [prepare meals for vulnerable residents](https://www.facebook.com/GSJEFP/?__tn__=kCH-R&eid=ARBvZ97YdPwCTfM3BDq6qtCYgGajHGDl1dATsgE0zl3CfsvxK0seDYbl4doemz9-3izfXuPZ45Otv2YP&hc_ref=ARQISf98Qm0tfXPyRRdmIs-qz7t4oNnh7xM2rw3nnlPaCYaPS2aQnFn5Do94mF1kTxA&fref=nf&__xts__%5b0%5d=68.ARB9-EEGMgxtinr4OmuQeFxnfDIdRE24Ef95Gwu3L2BYHIQEQDBXqWXOIqqh-AVOC8CTIfZd4uEeOaw1pGmakodTDIb20hvTVHNroVTdD4XtamhiEpELTYAMCNxaw_OuaFdS_xfa0MA8x5rDA5hdh7_3skdno_N8e2aeMPzEyj5li2OzZcLGQhOo1_Af7XzeerNkkKwhfmhRhtxk4Q0jycGvj_HYnmrqdJmPDgtwDk15GDM7C3efy5UOc93IsvrS_KUmk9jeU-x3oEsnyUd7ZfM8tTfVGsRQ6ywWCKVg8TwiIAbVnrAe1MapkKWIJDsYB7vCVfUCM-FUi0SvjqyDN3RdM8k7DI2avXbGgOVpzp5bW6fpa-p8PkRKVlNa5OWCboTvg9WvezYVK2JcHQ3GgKTj1XTGjoTyu5186C8jpCBXVLmM5ks6vMAElVhN4omYSnlQFYW3fzobRY2PjHhfckvW7JCzY9Eb4e_GUVggqg-gZPj0zl1qXoYDYA); [organize volunteer food deliveries to households or other agencies](https://www.facebook.com/driverseatowensound/posts/1270435816482889); and [distribute food, hygiene products and information to homeless camps](https://www.mission.ca/connect-get-involved-homeless-action-week/)
