The Community Climate Transitions (CCT) team is starting 2023 on the most exciting and hopeful of notes.
As you may know, in 2022, 19 trailblazing communities from 6 provinces took part in our first-ever Climate Transitions Cohort. Today, we are proud to announce that we are welcoming 30 new communities to the 2023 edition of the Cohort. And that we are inaugurating our first-ever Cohort for French speakers, too!
These are two important milestones that build the capacity and momentum we need to facilitate climate transitions that leave no one behind.
But that’s not all. Thanks to a grant from the newly established Definity Insurance Foundation, this year we are introducing a Community Contributions Fund, as well as an Innovation Fund to support the work of climate champions across the country.

During our shared 10-month program, Cohort members have access to experts, coaches, guest speakers and resources that build capacity around foundational themes such as collective impact, climate justice, and community engagement.

Community Climate Transitions Awarded New Definity Insurance Foundation Grant
Definity Insurance Foundation recently awarded $7.1 million in multi-year commitments to a small number of innovative organizations and initiatives that are advancing equity-centered, intersectional solutions in the fields of good health, socio-economic opportunities, and climate action.
At CCT, the grant supports the establishment of a Community Contributions Fund as well as an Innovation Fund. Read the blog post to learn more about them and how to apply!

CCT is a supporting partner of Transforming Climate Grief into Action, an exciting new opportunity by Tamarack Institute and the Canadian Red Cross designed for young people in BC and Yukon who are impacted by wildfires to take part in a 9-month learning journey of workshops and coaching – with funding of up to $5,000 to run their own climate action project. Applications are now open so please share widely!
In February, CCT was pleased to attend the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Sustainable Communities conference in Ottawa, where we delivered a training session on trust-building for community engagement.
