Hi there,
Thank you for joining us on the June Municipal Government Representatives Community of Practice (MGR CoP). On this call, we reviewed the purpose and structure of the CoP and brainstormed topics and speakers for the coming year.
Two important follow-up items for ALL members of the MGR CoP:
- Re-register for the MGR CoP. As we renew the MGR CoP for Summer 2022, all existing members must re-register to remain on our contact list.
- Take 5 min to complete this short survey. Your input will help us to renew the MGR CoP to better meet your learning needs. Alternatively, you can reply to this email to send me your throughts and feedback directly.
For some starting inspiration, here are a few ideas that came up on today's call:
- Shifting the group's focus to be more specific (e.g. the municipal role and municipal levers in tackling complex social issues: Where do we start and what can local governments do?)
- Asking CoP members to co-create agendas based on questions that are pressing to their municipalities, then sharing questions for members to reflect on in advance of our calls
- Shifting our meetings from every two months to quarterly, with learning opportunities led by other groups shared in between
- Partnering with other related CoPs (e.g. the BC CoP and Ontario's Municipal Indigenous)
- Ideas for upcoming topics:
- The municipal response to: COVID recovery, the opioid crisis, the increasing cost of living, addiction and other things the pandemic has exacerbated. How can municipalities address increasing needs?
- Relationships with local institutions (e.g. the police): Best and 'bad' practices
- Ensuring municipal funding strategies are culturally appropriate, recognizing barriers to communities in applying, and avoiding creating unhealthy competition between applicants
Our next call will be scheduled for August or September 2022, once your feedback has been integrated. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Alison and the Communities Ending Poverty Team
