featured a follow-up of our 2022 CEP Virtual Member Gathering, including Outcome Harvest results.  We also launched a new and improved online renewal process for CEP membership, our 2023 Roadmap and shared details on our exciting Spring Summit.

Discussion Highlights

• Outcome Harvest takeaways:
  • Members reported outcomes in process (how we engage, what we engage in, building capacity etc.) rather than systems/policy change or population-level impact.
  • There are incremental observations of systems and policy change, but those changes tend to be small and closer to us (such as organizational systems and policy change).
  • Other than awareness and advocacy, member responses indicate less "big policy" change, (Basic Income), which need levers outside of our control. 
  • Members expressed a need to harness the collective power of the network to advance system change.
• Sustainability and resilience of collaboratives require intentional, invested reflection.
• The CEP 2023 Roadmap to ending poverty (version 1.0) focuses on Indigenous poverty, working poverty and deep poverty.
• The 2023 Communities Ending Poverty Summit for Strength will help members find hope and inspiration, provide opportunities for creative dialogue, and tools to strengthen resiliency.

• Court Decision | Coscarelli v. Canada (Attorney General) - Ms. Coscarelli was not eligible for the CRB by $7.24 and lost the court challenge to overturn the CRA’s decision to deny her the benefit.
• Form | Online Renewal - Renew CEP membership and indicate preferred engagement.
• Tool | Sustainability Self-Assessment Tool - The sustainability 
  self-assessment tool helps collaborations assess the degree to which partners are engaged in building sustainability into their effort.

• Best Practice | BC Poverty Reduction Coalition's Community Action Network - leadership and advocacy training for people with lived and living experience of poverty. 

Upcoming Opportunities

• WEBINAR | Mental Health and Poverty: A Systems Change Approach | December 8 | 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET | Coordination among social care sectors is necessary to solve the discrimination against those living with poor mental health and poverty. Changing core systems is critical to embracing and solving this complex challenge.
• WEBINAR | Local Government Contribution: A Gamechanger for Positive Social Change | January 25 | 1:00 p.m. ‒ 2:00 p.m. ET | Explore avenues within municipal and district jurisdictions to help local government leaders, staff, and community change-makers understand what is possible when municipalities become ‘catalytic converters’ for positive social change.
• Communities Ending Poverty: Summit for Strength will take place April 25-27th. This event will explore new ways to address complex social impacts and help members:
  • Find hope and inspiration​
  • Provide opportunities for creative dialogue and networking ​
  • Share tools to collaboratively strengthen resiliency towards a better future
