Hello there,

Thank you for joining the May Communities Ending Poverty Anti-Racism call. We thank the Saskatoon Poverty Reduction Partnership and Sharissa Unger Hantke for continuing to support and facilitate the Community of Practice (CoP). This Community of Practice is not recorded to foster safe space dialogue.

Discussion Highlights

  • Members discussed the importance of having a safe space to discuss racism and learn from each other; they expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with others and work towards racial justice together.

  • We hope to expand this CoP to other members within the Tamarack community who are interested in joining. Reach out to Maureen if you have any concerns by the end of May, otherwise we will proceed with expansion in June.
  • Tension exists between the transformative power of anti-racism education and the goal of personal inner transformation. Anti-racism education can be transformative, but personal self-improvement should not be the ultimate goal; the goal is centring and challenging the system.
  • Qualitative data and stories, and quantitative data are essential as we incorporate anti-racism and anti-oppression work into poverty reduction efforts.
  • The group examined two questions to inform Tamarack's EDIJR Theory of Change; discussion captured in Mural.
    • What Context leads us to anti-racism work?
    • What principles are required in anti-racism work?
