Hello there,
Thank you for joining our June Communities Ending Poverty Convenor call where members discussed how their collaboratives were engaging youth in poverty reduction work.
Our team was also excited to announce two upcoming events:
1. 2022 Communities Ending Poverty Virtual Member Gathering | October 19, 2022 | Register up to three representatives per member community. You will also be receiving a 'save the date' calendar hold for this event. We hope to see every CEP member represented.
2. 2023 Communities Ending Poverty National Summit | Spring 2023 (TBA) | Looking ahead to next year's large national gathering, please complete this short survey to let us know what you'd like the theme to be, what speakers you'd like to hear from, and what you'd like to learn.

Discussion Highlights
-
Successful youth engagement practices from Communities Ending Poverty members: compensating youth (e.g., through grants or partners), incorporating fun activities (e.g., swimming), focusing on issues that motivate youth (e.g., food initiatives), engaging with youth where they're already engaged (e.g., through organizations or associations)
-
Remaining questions/challenges:
-
How do we know when youth are engaged? (i.e. definitions, measures)
-
How do we make engagement accessible to youth?
-
How do we diversify engagement beyond youth who are are already engaged, to those who don't feel engaged or don't feel that the space is for them?
-
How do we build youth capacity? What are the pathways to leadership?
-
How do we democratize leadership, lifting up informal youth leadership?
-
Challenge: Capacity to engage youth - it needs to be someone's job
