This month we're exploring social capital. Social capital is about relationships. It is about the value of social networks, bonding similar people and bridging between diverse people that goes both ways.
We've put together resources, blogs and case studies to help build your knowledge and skills to increase social capital in your neighbourhood.

Social Capital in Action
Harvesting Local Gifts and Assets at the Centennial Community Garden
Community gardens have been popping up in cities across Canada and have been proven to have many health benefits such as promoting physical activity and reducing stress. The Centennial community garden in St. Catharines, Ontario has seen the immediate health benefits but also found the garden harvests more than food: it utilizes local gifts and assets.
One initiative that has been using social capital as a way to address complex issues such as social isolation has been Life.School.House in Nova Scotia. Life.School.House is considered a non-traditional learning community that celebrates the gifts of community members, builds connections, and reinforces the social value of barter and exchange.
The McGill Institute for Health and Social Policy (IHSP) is pleased to announce its 2021 annual conference. This online conference will feature national and international expert panels, discussion and workshops in four weekly online sessions.
Speakers: Jennifer Johnson, Russ Kueber and Liz Weaver
